Cuccio's Bakeryā€ˇ, it is a place that you remember even if you have not been there in almost forty years, my grandfather first took me there in 1966 for cookies and a lemon ice. I had the chance to return there recently, it was as though nothing had changed. It is the kind of bakery that you cannot even find in Chicago or anyplace else for that matter. --Rebecca M. I highly recommend Cuccio's Bakery for your wedding cake. They have been around for 50+ years and I now see why. I worked with Janet, their cake designer and she was amazing. I brought in a photo of what I wanted and she executed my vision perfectly. My cake was gorgeous and they worked within my budget which was so hard to come by in a city like NY. The cake was delicious and everyone loved it. She gave me different filling and icing options and the cake exceeded our expectations. I cried when the brought it out for us to cut - it was GORGEOUS! Live peony flowers cascading down the side - it was amazing and delicious. A+ vendor all the way. Thanks Cuccios. --Angie M. Jersey City, NJ

How do you know you are in the boondocks of Brooklyn? When you discover that the bakery you are in charges 65 cents for a doughnut. Yup, all of one quarter and four dimes. A specialty doughnut is only ten cents more, for a total of 75 cents - or about one-fifth of the trendy bakeries.... Cuccio's recently reopened after renovation, and the locals are thrilled, judging from my recent Saturday morning visit - the line always had four people in it, although it moved fairly quickly. Loyalists can even buy a souvenir t-shirt - that's how well-loved this place is. I've only been visiting this place since the 1990s, but a former boss told me about going here in the 1960s, so guess the locals know a good thing when they eat it. All the usual pastries are available here, along with many sizes of Italian bread and more cookies than you could ever eat. Hot coffee and tea are available if you want to enjoy your confection with a beverage. My husband and I bought six donuts, one cheese croissant, two cupcakes, a muffin and a bread, and everything was very good. The pastries are fairly large, and the cupcake was so big that I could finish only half. Truly a place to visit if you want some classic pastry. If you're really impressed, you can return for a custom cake. Looked like some great ones are available. I'm with the crowd - I just love this place! -- Lisa Jane C. Brooklyn, NY

What is great: the fresh bread, the fresh bread, the fresh bread. There is some kind of of wonderful, savory flavor in their bread. We always get seeded loaves, sometimes the ropey ones, some times the regular small or large. Regardless, everyone who tried this bread cannot believe how flavorful and delicious it is. We have to bring at least 3 loaves every time we visit our Italian cousins in New Jersey. For Thanksgiving, we got a turkey bread-- just their amazing bread in the shape of a huge turkey. Needless to say, it was a hit and everyone wanted to take some home with them. What else is great: the cakes, especially the chocolate, and he lemon meringue pie is out of this world, not cloyingly sweet, with just the right proportions and tartness. Finally, the prices are still great. They are renovating right now, and they definitely deserve a beautiful, modern place. We look forward to it reopening, as we have to pre-order bread these days. And lastly, what was the one business open during Hurricane Irene? Cuccio's! When we asked the teenage girls at the counter how they were getting home, they just shrugged and said, "Our parents will pick us up." -- Julie N. New York, NY

I love this Bakery! =) It makes me smile! All I can say is that the square cheese buns are the best ever! Creamy cheese filling with an white icy glazed drizzle. They make them on extra large baking trays and cut them. The fruit buns are also good too, but I love the cheese ones best! All for under 1 dollar! They also makes the large cookies with the BIG chocolate dot, which is amazing too. The butter cookies are delicious as the black and white iced cakes in the window. You really can't go wrong with a nice loaf of Italian bread and a box filled with pastries as you exit. I'm sure you will be smiling too! -- Touro T. Brooklyn, NY

This is a pretty good Italian bakery. They have a very old school feel and make some very good products. I love their Italian cookies, especially the Savoiardi and Anisette biscuits. They also make AMAZING Italian bread here and people line up on weekend to get it. It is the best sliced up, drizzled with some olive oil and some fresh mozzarella, basil and a seasoned tomato on top. Yummo! -- Michelle M. New York, NY

This is an instituition in my neighborhood. Everyone I have spoke to says it's good and it's been around for a good long time and now I know why. I picked up a dozen jelly donuts because I had guests coming over last weekend and they were a hit. -- Adina B. Brooklyn, NY

Two words: Jelly - Donuts. I grew up eating these donuts on special occasions and when I returned to Brooklyn they became a family favorite for my children. In addition, the freshly baked bread is so good, that some of my kids prefer a soft, warm piece of bread to a donut. Absolutely worth going out of your way for. -- Rich B. Brooklyn, NY
